In many countries the fee has to be paid in US$ or AUD so that is something at least. But that test ensures that you are at the standard required to be able to succeed in an Australian University. Better to know that before you go and not have your government waste scholarship money on students who will not pass. Maybe your government could sponsor the cost of the test at least for those who are successful!Vicky and Ianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10437349436643286817noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30026077.post-80539836048882711322012-06-09T16:55:07.878+06:002012-06-09T16:55:07.878+06:00We have not made it out yet. With 30 years of teaching experience we are still required to produce a lot paperwork which is expensive for us to get too. That is to say nothing of paying our own insurance costs and airfares to and from Bhutan and all set up costs. We worked for the first 8 months just to earn what we invested to be here. That is why even though we earn good salaries by Bhutanese standards we are still called volunteer teachers. After 2 years teaching we will break even if we go home. We did not come for the money and we love the students but it is expensive for us too.Vicky and Ianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10437349436643286817noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30026077.post-62075206069408932512012-06-08T13:56:18.922+06:002012-06-08T13:56:18.922+06:00Vicky and lan, Bhutanese Government's procedur...Vicky and lan, Bhutanese Government's procedures in recruiting foreign teacher may be long and inefficient but the procedure is not made thus for business reasons. Bhutan is a poor country- you must have made it out by now- and having to travel all the way to Thimphu and pay Nu.8000 for a test is expensive- and I hope Bhutan Govt. didn't test your ability to speak English? Because it's obvious you can- which is what I am meaning to convey. IELTS is a business.PaSsuhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02614890147769005398noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30026077.post-12324943426054433852012-06-03T17:32:08.041+06:002012-06-03T17:32:08.041+06:00Even those from English speaking countries are req...Even those from English speaking countries are required to take the IELTS test and if you are so sure of yourselves, your English abilities and the standard of English created in the education system in Bhutan, why do you need to worry about taking the test? Do you have any idea of the number of hoops the Bhutanese government makes foreign teachers jump through to be a part of your system???Vicky and Ianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10437349436643286817noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30026077.post-24820699626774043822012-06-01T04:07:10.266+06:002012-06-01T04:07:10.266+06:00This comment has been removed by the author.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05554584368039636452noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30026077.post-88989284604961150672012-06-01T04:06:54.525+06:002012-06-01T04:06:54.525+06:00I second Passu and the same situation happened to ...I second Passu and the same situation happened to me as described by Pema Dezang. English is the medium...Yeah...i too agree with you. English is the medium of instructions at all levels of modern education systems in Bhutan, yet we are dictated our proficiency in the language by the internationally standardized system to be eligible for our further educations in English speaking countries.Credibility of our education must be equated at par with the international education systems in these countries, so that we have a fair play without much hindrance to get into the universities abroad for higher studies.<br />But the fact is, even for the students who currently reside or study in English speaking countries must meet the required level of English proficiency to be eligible for higher studies. If i m not mistaken, a student should have studied at least 10 years in schools in native country, so that he/she doesn't have to do IELTS/TOEFL tests for higher entries. To waive off IELTS requirement will be one thing and to establish credibility of our education systems will be quite another for the BHUTANESE today.Pema Dezanghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03700468132171649974noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30026077.post-71910931575152193712012-05-25T01:28:49.367+06:002012-05-25T01:28:49.367+06:00Yes, I agree with you sir.
